People were searching for a way to play Halo in a browser well before this list went viral. The list adds two options, both built around Halo: Combat Evolved.
Both are engine ports. Neither includes the game itself, so you need your own copy of the original game data. That is what keeps these projects legal to host, and it is the step most people miss.

The Radiant Optimizer list gives two ways to play Halo in browser, and both are built around Halo: Combat Evolved. The first is a browser port hosted on mitchellhynes.com that runs the original Xbox game. The second is HCEMobile, a phone-first web app you can install on iPhone, iPad or Android.
Both are engines, not copies of the game. You provide the game data from a copy of Halo CE that you own, and the port runs it locally. That design is the reason these projects can exist openly, and it is also the step that trips up most people who expect a one-click game.
Your files stay on your device. The browser reads them into local storage; nothing is uploaded to the project's server.
Open HCEMobile in your phone's browser and use the install option for your platform: Add to Home Screen on iPhone and iPad, or Install App in Chrome on Android. Launching from the home screen gives you a full-screen game without the browser bar, keeps your saves, and lets the game run offline once the files are loaded.
The site walks you through adding your game files after install. Touch controls are built in, and a Bluetooth controller makes the campaign far more comfortable.
Bungie released Halo: Combat Evolved in 2001 as an Xbox launch title, and Gearbox ported it to PC in 2003. It set the template for console shooters with its two-weapon limit, regenerating shields and vehicle combat on the ring world Installation 04. The campaign is the main attraction of both browser options, from The Pillar of Autumn to the Warthog run in the finale.
People have searched for Halo in browser for years, long before this list went viral. The official way to play today is The Master Chief Collection on PC and Xbox, which includes Combat Evolved Anniversary.
Because Halo in browser is a steady search term, scam sites offer "ready to play" Halo downloads that need no files. Those are where malware usually hides.
